Pilates is a form of low impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility.
Pilates moves tend to target the core although the exercises work other parts of the body as well.
You can do Pilates with or without equipment but no matter what expect the moves to be controlled, precise with a lovely flow of movements to the body with breathe.
If practised consistently it strengthens and stabilises your CENTRE (core of the body), which is your foundation, so that you can move more efficiently while improving posture, flexibility and mobility. The emphasis is on alignment, breathing developing a strong powerhouse (your abdomen, lower back and pelvis) along with improving posture, balance and coordination and resulting in a sense of relaxation and wellbeing
The beauty of Pilates system is that it can be adapted to suit from a beginner to advanced level making it suitable for all ages and abilities.
There are many different ways in practising Pilates as Pilates is for everybody. You’ll be tackling a session that’s performed on a Mat or a machine called a Reformer, which is a sliding platform called the carriage that complete with stationary foot bar, springs and pulleys that provide resistance. Pilates can also be performed using the equipment, The Wunda Chair , Tower / Cadillac . You can also practise on a everyday chair for seated and supported exercises for those who are not confident about getting on and of the floor.
